Watch “tooclose,” an intimate LGBT romance short film created and envisioned by Taryn Kanoelani (Dacuag). Originally developed as a capstone project for the “Digital Dialogue” course, this production represents the culmination of technical skills, storytelling techniques, and creative growth acquired throughout a rigorous cinematic education. While this version reflects the filmmaker’s journey from nearly two years ago, a full-scale professional remake is currently in development to further explore these characters.
Lifelong friendships are put to the ultimate test when the lines between platonic affection and romantic longing begin to blur beyond recognition.
SYNOPSIS:
Kiernan and Amelia have shared a bond for years, but beneath the surface of their casual hangouts, Kiernan has secretly fallen deeply in love with her best friend. Following Amelia’s recent and painful breakup with her boyfriend, Reggie, Kiernan steps in to provide emotional support. As she comforts Amelia through the heartbreak, her feelings intensify, reaching a breaking point. A night of shared vulnerability and a near-kiss leads Kiernan to believe that her feelings might finally be mutual. When she gathers the courage to confess her truth, the sting of rejection triggers a heated confrontation, forcing the two apart. As Amelia attempts to bridge the gap and Kiernan struggles to suppress her memories, they must eventually face one another to decide if their friendship can survive the weight of unrequited love or if it’s time to finally let go.
